The Society of Southeastern Archivists (SEAA) is a regional group for archivists in the Southeastern United States. Our mission is to provide an avenue for conversation and collaboration, to serve as an additional outlet for regional communication, and to support the archival community of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi.

SEAA/SGA Virtual Summer Symposium: Navigating the Pitfalls and Possibilities of Contested Collections
On June 23, 2023, the Southeastern Archives Association and the Society of Georgia Archives held a virtual summer symposium. The symposium’s theme was Navigating the Pitfalls and Possibilities of Contested Collections.
During the symposium, presenters focused on the challenges and opportunities associated with working with collections that document violence and oppression and resistance to that oppression. The presentations were

“The Journal for the Society of North Carolina Archivists (JSNCA) seeks to support the theoretical, practical, and scholarly aspects of the archival professions by publishing articles and reviews related to curatorial issues (e.g., collection management and development), technical services (e.g., cataloging, processing, digital collections, EAD, preservation, conservation, etc.), and public services (reference, instruction, outreach) for special collections and archives.”
The Primary Source
“The Primary Source is the official publication of the Society and contains timely articles on archives, records management and conservation, listings of accessions at archival repositories and national and regional archival news. The Primary Source is now published only electronically.”
Provenance
“In 1972, Georgia Archive, now Provenance, became the first professional archival journal published by a state or regional organization. The Society of American Archivists gave the publication an award of merit in 1975. Today, Provenance is published annually and is circulated nationally and internationally to over 300 members including libraries, universities, and historical societies. The journal’s primary focus concerns the archival profession in the theory and practice of archival management.”
